When discussing where we should take our annual hiking trip, we didn’t fully take into consideration just how far along I’d be in my pregnancy. I’ve wanted to visit upstate New York during the fall for awhile now and when Kayle said that’s where we should take our trip, I didn’t hesitate to commit!

The only problem was that one of the bucket list hikes I knew I wanted to do while there is pretty challenging and I didn’t know if I’d be able to do it being 8 months pregnant at the time. I hoped for the best and wanted to give it a shot for sure, but knew there was a good chance I wouldn’t be able to.

We flew into NYC and hit up the Finger Lake area first to see Toughannock Falls and Watkins Glen State Park. We stayed the first night in Trumansburg at the cutest inn tucked in the woods. The next day we did the Gorge Trail and Ithaca Falls and then took off for Lake Placid.

That evening we hiked Mount Jo which was a nice warmup for our big hike the next day. The fall colors around the heart shaped lake looked like fruity pebbles.

The following day we rented a canoe and went leaf peeping around Flower Lake in Saranac Lake and then went to do our main hike of Indian Head. I’m so happy to say that I was able to do the hike and it went surprisingly well even despite it raining the entire time. We were a little worried the view at the top would be covered in fog and when we first got up there the visibility was pretty low but after a little bit the fog cleared just enough for us to see the most stunning view of the lake surrounded by orange trees. It was one of the most beautiful views I’ve seen yet!

Our last day we drove back to NYC and ate at a delicious Italian place and got gelato for dessert and finished the night with some tourist spots. We did Top of the Rock observation deck at the Rockefeller Center to see the skyline from above followed by taking the ferry on the water for a view of the skyline from below. We finished the night walking the Brooklyn Bridge.

The trip was jam packed with lots of travel, but we were able to see and do so much while we were there and it went absolutely amazing!
