The apostle Islands in Wisconsin have been on my radar for quite a while now and when Katy suggested visiting them for our annual hiking trip with our pups and I was immediately in! The islands were so appealing because of their extremely blue/green water and the gorgeous coastline of sea caves which is was unexpected for Wisconsin! The cluster of islands is located on Superior and I am no stranger to this lake having visited it many times, but only the Minnesota and Michigan shorelines up until this point.
We stayed at a cabin in the woods just outside Bayfield. The first day was spent kayaking the coastline off Meyer’s Beach to explore the sea caves and then hit up downtown in the evening. The second day we did a local hike to Houghton Falls and visited a local winery, followed by taking a ferry out to Madeline Island. On the island, we visited Big Bay State Park and hiked along the coastline there for some stunning views of the lake and the amazing colored water. The dogs got to swim at the beach and we ate pizza and ice cream before catching an amazing sunset on the ferry ride home.
It was an absolutely amazing time which is so easy to have with Katy girl! We will definitely be back 🙂
